Oak Brook paving projects under way

With most of the 2012 paving project already completed, Oak Brook residents should only see minimal effects as the project wraps up.
Beginning this week, JA Johnson Paving of Arlington Heights began work on the parking lots of the Village Hall, Fire Station No. 1 and the Oak Brook Library and started re-paving work on Kensington Court.
“The work at the fire station, Village Hall and library are a minor part of an approximately $2 million paving project,” Oak Brook Project Engineer Jim Bosma said. “Approximately 75 percent of the entire project was dedicated to the recently completed paving work in the Saddlebrook subdivision.”
In addition most of the project in Saddlebrook, the work included some asphalt patching in the northwest portion of the Brook Forest subdivision.
“The biggest portion of the work is really over in Saddlebrook,” Village Manager Dave Niemeyer said. “There will be some sidewalk improvements, new pavement markings and asphalt patching at the fire station and the library. Most of the Village Hall parking lot by the east entrance will be resurfaced.”
Workers will remove 3 inches of asphalt at Village Hall and replace it with 5 inches of new asphalt. The project will repave about one-quarter of the Village Hall parking lot and cost about $100,000.
The library project will include 5 to 10 percent of the parking lot. Bosma said more than a decade has passed since the lots at the three locations were initially installed.
At the start of next week, JA Johnson Paving will begin marking the new pavements to complete the project.
According to Bosma, the work should be completed by the end of the week, and residents should only feel “the general nuisance of construction work” if they are traveling to the project areas.
The last piece of the 2012 paving project will be the resurfacing of Kensington Court near the post office. That work will begin in conjunction with the other projects and be completed by the end of June.
The 2012 paving project was approved by the Village Board in April.
