OAK BROOK — Oak Brook’s second annual Oktoberfest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Central Park, 1450 Forest Gate Road.
The Oak Brook Park District is coordinating activities with support from the village and the Ronald McDonald Foundation.
“We were looking to add a new idea and always wanted to have an adult soccer tournament,” said Chris Piasecki, a recreation supervisor for the park district. “The village had an autumn fest for kids, so we took part of that and incorporated it into this idea.”
Soccer and softball tournaments will continue into Sunday, but other Oktoberfest activities are planned for Saturday.
A children’s area, which will be open from 1 to 4 p.m., includes face painting, a pumpkin walk, balloon animals, crafts, pony rides, Fire Department activities, an appearance by Ronald McDonald, a moon jump, and entertainment
After hungry visitors to last year’s inaugural event quickly ate up available food from visiting food trucks, the park district enlisted the services of Sweet Baby Ray’s Catering Company and Tasty Catering to provide a customized fall menu that will include bratwurst and sauerkraut, jumbo pretzels, beer, cheese sauce, and caramel apples. Sweet Baby Rays also will have pulled pork sandwiches for sale. The full Oktoberfest menu is available at www.obparks.org.
Two Brothers Ebel’s Weiss and Domaine DuPage on tap again will be featured for sale. The Two Brothers Brewery is a local family owned and operated microbrewery and brewpub.
One of the bands scheduled to perform from 3 to 5 p.m., Chef Dan and the Appetizers, includes members who are McDonald’s employees and suppliers to the McDonald’s. Lead singers are executive chef Dan and Eddie V. of the “Eddie and Jobo” radio show.
