Oak Brook trustee opts against re-election

OAK BROOK — Stelios Aktipis has changed his mind about seeking re-election to the Oak Brook Village Board.

Aktipis, who was first elected as a trustee in April 2003, filed the required documents to be on the ballot for the April 9 election. However, he had a change of heart over the past few weeks.

“I really made this decision after finding out that Elaine Zannis wasn’t going to run again,” Aktipis said. “I feel that she, Mark Moy and myself have made a good team. And now, with Elaine not running, we wouldn’t have that team. I very much have enjoyed serving the residents of Oak Brook, but I think it’s time for someone else to have an opportunity.”

Aktipis’ withdrawal from the election leaves six candidates seeking three open positions for four-year terms on the Village Board.

Moy now is the only incumbent seeking re-election. Challengers are John G. Barr, Donald N. Adler, Phil Cuevas, William Denton and Steven Young.
