OAK BROOK — A location just east of the Oak Brook Public Library is most-recently proposed spot for a new school at the Sports Core by Butler Elementary District 53.

Previous possible site plans called for a new school to be constructed north of the library; however, FGM Architects, following meetings between officials from the village of Oak Brook and District 53, used the location east of the library in a plan diagram.

“The village likes this spot better because it leaves open space next to the Bath & Tennis Club,” School Board President Alan Hanzlik said. “Nothing is definite at this point, and we remain flexible, depending on what the village wants.”

The latest plan calls for 110 parking spaces north of the building, the side on which the main entrance would be located. Eighteen spaces and a bus turnaround area are part of the plan for directly west of the school building. An additional 90 parking spaces for overflow parking would be included along the west side of polo drive, which is west of the library.

The District 53 Board is interested in purchasing 8.5 acres of Sports Core property from village and building a school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. That plan would include closing Butler Junior High and Brook Forest Elementary, and selling those properties.
