HINSDALE – The Adventist Cancer Institute will hold three community information sessions in March to discuss its proposed new facility.
The three sessions will be held at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, 120 N. Oak St. in Hinsdale, and are scheduled for 8::30 a.m. March 5, at 5:30 p.m. March 6 and 6:30 p.m. March 11.
The sessions are open to anyone looking for more information on the plans for the center.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has approved the certificate of need for the Adventist Cancer Institute. Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is working with the village of Hinsdale on zoning and other local approvals leading up to the start of construction.
The new free-standing facility will be the central location providing care for all cancer patients from Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, said Christine Van De Wege, vice president of integrated services with Adventist Hinsdale and La Grange Memorial hospitals.
“We plan to offer personalized cancer care in a comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility,” Van De Wege said. “Our new center will better allow us to care for each cancer patient in a meaningful, individualized way within one convenient location equipped with the latest technology to detect and battle cancer.”
The hospitals have developed plans for the new center in partnership with the medical staff.
Hospital officials project that outpatient cancer services will grow by 31 percent over the next 10 years, said Michael J. Goebel, chief executive officer at Hinsdale Hospital. Cancer is listed as the leading cause of death in DuPage County by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“The new cancer center will allow us to serve this growing patient population well into the future,” Goebel said.
The center will be constructed on the north side of Ogden Avenue, just west of Interstate 294 in Hinsdale.
