The Elmhurst Choral Union and Orchestra, currently celebrating its 60th season, presents “Spiritual Romantics,” a program of music to stir the soul, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at in Elmhurst College’s Hammerschmidt Chapel, 190 Prospect Ave. In honor of the group’s 60 years, Mayor DiCianni will present the choir with a declaration of April 22 as Elmhurst Choral Union Day. A full professional orchestra and soloists join the ECU, under the direction of James MacDonald, in performing Bruckner’s dramatic Mass No. 1, and opening chorale from Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger,” and in recognition of the anniversary, Part’s Cantus in Memoriam, a piece reflecting on chant, an early form of choral music. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and $10 for students. Shuttle bus service from the college parking lot on Alexander Boulevard will be available.
