Your children will agree that history is fascinating after spending time at Civil War Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, at the Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.

“It’s a great opportunity for parents and kids to share a little bit about history and experience it first-hand,” said Lauren Visher, special events coordinator. “There are reenactors all over the grounds depicting that period of time. It brings everything to life.”

More than 300 Civil War reenactors will be on-site, and at 2:30 p.m. both days they will stage a battle between the North and South. Families will have a chance to meet President Abraham Lincoln, his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, and Civil War generals — all portrayed by reenactors.

Food and reproductions of Civil War-era products will be sold.

Tickets are $10, $5 for ages 4 to 12 in advance, $5 more at the door.

Can’t read her lips

That’s because Sandi Sylver taught herself the art of ventriloquism by reading a library book. The storyteller, ventriloquist and singer will present Crazy Gibberish and the Cha-Cha-Cha! at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Oak Brook Public Library, 600 Oak Brook Road. The fun-filled program focuses on wordplay and nonsense words.
