Families will get to know some Husky Heroes, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29 at Morton Arboretum, I-88 and Route 53, Lisle. “It’s really a fun weekend,” said event coordinator Diana Fischer-Woods. “We have dogsled demos on our south lawn. Each demo is preceded by a talk about the dogs and the sport of dogsledding.” There will also be a demonstration of skijoring — a dog pulling a person on skis.
Adopt a Husky will be in the Sycamore Room offering information about adoptable dogs.
“In Cudahy Auditorium, we show each day three viewings of what we call ‘The Last Great Race,’” Fischer-Woods said. “Lots of it is original footage from the early 1900s when children in Nome, Ak., were struck by diphtheria and the only way to get the medicine through was by dogsled.”
Visitors can pose for a photo with a dogsled and team.
Event is free with Arboretum admission.
