Here’s Judy’s pick of coming community activities in the Oak Brook/Oakbrook Terrace area, spiced with a little commentary.

Along with them grits: Steve Justman performs some of the most influential, important and well-loved American folk, country and popular songs at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oak Brook Public Library, 600 Oak Brook Road. Admission is free. To register, call (630) 368-7700 or visit www.oak-brook.lib.il.us.

Here are the lyrics to Judy’s country song (I know you didn’t ask, oh, be quiet): “Muh baby done left me, ah’m feelin’ so rotten/ There a hussy he met to whom he did cotton/ To help me forget that ah’ve now been forgotten/ Ah’m gorging on ice cream and taters-au-gratin.”

Mommy needs a nap: The Oakbrook Terrace Park District offers a Toddler Time Fun program - for ages 1-1/2 to 3, with an adult - taking place from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 7 to 28, at the Heritage Center, 1S325 Ardmore Ave. Come sing, dance, learn finger plays and make crafts. Toddlers will be tired and ready for nap time upon conclusion of the program. The class fee is $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents.

“Toddlers will be tired and ready for nap time upon conclusion of the program.” Oh, yeah? I know a toddler who never is ready for nap time – take her for a walk up and down the Hancock Building whilst winning a spot in the Guinness book for the longest rendition of “Old McDonald” (“ … and on his farm he had an iguana, which in Patagonia is a farm animal … ”) - she’s still perky as ever. But we’ll be there. I’ll be the one snoring.

At least she admits it: Plan to discover the fun of visiting a forest preserve in winter at the Wonders of Winter event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St., Oak Brook. Highlights at this free family event include horse-drawn hayrides, dog-sled demonstrations, ice-fishing, nature hikes, and crafts and games inside Mayslake Hall. Registration is not required. For information, call (630) 933-7248.

I asked our pug, Lucy, if she would participate in the dogsled demonstration at this Wonders of Winter event. She haughtily informed me that she might be persuaded to sit in the sled and wave to the adoring crowd, but the dog team would not be allowed to speak with her before, during or after the demonstration. “Ruffians, all,” is what Lucy said. “What a snob,” I remarked. “Of course,” she answered.

I’m sooo scared: A computer class on Internet Searching will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Oak Brook Public Library, 600 Oak Brook Road. There is no charge. To register, call (630) 368-7700 or visit www.oak-brook.lib.il.us.

Dear Oak Brook Library: I would so like to take this class on Internet Searching, but if the Internet finds out that I, personally, am searching for it, it won’t let me find it. And, by the way, Google hates me too, every time … ohmigod, my laptop is humming ominously – it knows I’m writing you, I must flee. Sincerely, Judy “Terrified Typist” Brinkworth.

Love, and fighting, in the afternoon: Step Into The Night is the special winter exhibit starting Feb. 7 at the Lake View Nature Center, 17W063 Hodges Road, Oakbrook Terrace. Native nocturnal animals and their adaptations for survival at night will be featured. Admission is free. For information call (630) 941-8747 or visit www.obtpd.org/lvnc.

I’ve always been a “nocturnal animal” – “It’s 2 a.m., only three more “Revenge” TiVos to watch” – while my hero is a morning person –“It’s 5 a.m., let’s go run 187 miles.” Thus, we’re only wide awake together at 3 in the afternoon. That gives us approximately five minutes to argue or have sex. We’re exceptionally efficient and accomplish both. Simultaneously.
