AT&T enhances Oak Brook coverage

Updated: April 2, 2012 1:55AM

As part of network investment to support demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, AT&T has announced the activation of a mobile broadband cell site in Oak Brook aimed to enhance coverage for area residents and businesses.

With mobile broadband speeds, AT&T customers can surf the Web, download files, and enjoy mobile applications.

Residents and businesses should experience improved voice and data performance in areas bordered by 31st Street and Spring Road; 31st Street and Jorie Boulevard, and at Ottawa and Fox Trail Lanes.

The new cell site is one part of AT&T’s efforts to drive investment and innovation for customers. AT&T provides mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities.

“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience,” said Paul La Schizza, AT&T Illinois president. “We’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we’re ensuring that Oak Brook has an advanced 21st century telecommunications infrastructure.”

AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, wireless network platforms. AT&T provides access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 cruise ships, as well as mobile broadband services in more than 130 countries.

“Smartphones, tablets and laptops are continuing to drive unprecedented demand for wireless access everywhere,” said Dave Fine, AT&T Illinois vice president and general manager.

We’re investing in a combination of technologies right here in Oak Brook to meet these needs and ensure an advanced broadband experience for all our customers.”

AT&T also operates a Wi-Fi network with more than 29,000 hotspots in the United States and provides access to nearly 190,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T Smartphone customers get access to the national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.
