Ten area students win National Merit Scholarships

National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners were announced today by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

These scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

Following are the area students, their home town, probable career field and high school:

Emily Y. Fung of Darien, nonprofit management, Hinsdale South

Linda Jiang of Darien, medicine, Hinsdale Central

Rebecca M. Lewis of Hinsdale, business, Hinsdale Central

Robert J. Scales of Hinsdale, entrepreneurship (venture capital), Hinsdale Central

Joseph N. Shayani of Hinsdale, mathematics, Hinsdale Central
