Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive set for Saturday

Updated: June 11, 2012 8:50AM

With the help of local mail carriers, area residents can take part Saturday in the 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice and cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery Saturday.

The nationwide effort includes about 210,000 letter carriers collecting the food donations as they deliver the mail. The donated food will be taken to a local Feeding America food bank or hunger-relief organization.
