A gift made this year to the Evans Scholars Foundation will fully fund the Coady Family/Ruth Lake Country Club Endowed Named Scholarship in honor of the late Thomas C. Coady, his wife, Judy, and their family, all avid supporters of the Ruth Lake Country Club caddie program and the Evans Scholarships.
Coady, who passed away in 2007, and his wife were instrumental in the rebirth of the Evans Scholars Progr, working tirelessly with WGA Directors Dennis Jones and Jack Manning at Ruth Lake to help rekindle the club’s caddie program and Evans Scholars fund-raising, along with the support of head professional Mark Labiak, caddie master/head starter Marko Tatic and the Ruth Lake membership.
Jay and Jill Javors of Chicago made the gift this spring in recognition of the Coady Family and their efforts on behalf of the Evans Scholars. Javors – a 1980 University of Illinois Evans Scholars graduate – and his wife were long-time friends of the Coadys, who also graduated from the University of Illinois.
The Javors’ gift will fund a full tuition and housing scholarship for a caddie from Ruth Lake, with the first recipient being Oscar Barrales. A graduating senior at Hinsdale Central High School, Barrales will attend Northern Illinois University this fall. Barrales is the son of Carmen Barrales, a longtime respected Ruth Lake staff member.
