Same plane makes second emergency landing at O’Hare in two days

The same plane that veered off a runway at O’Hare International Airport after making an emergency landing Thursday was also forced to return to the airport after a similar problem Wednesday.
American Eagle Flight 4096, bound for Tulsa, Okla., returned to O’Hare after takeoff Wednesday when the pilot declared a problem with his landing gear, FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory said.
The same plane was taken out of service Wednesday when Flight 3927, bound for Hartford, Conn. was forced to return to O’Hare for a similar problem, American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle said.
The pilot noticed an indicator light in the cockpit after the Embraer ERJ-145 departed O’Hare at 8 a.m. Thursday, American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle said.
After returning to O’Hare and making an emergency landing, the plane veered off the runway onto a paved surface, city Department of Aviation spokesman Greg Cunningham said.
The 28 passengers and three crew members aboard the flight exited the plane on the runway, which was closed, Cunningham said. Buses then took passengers back to the terminal.
Passengers were put on another plane bound for Tulsa, Martelle said.
There were no injuries and the FAA is investigating.
After Wednesday’s emergency landing, in which no one was injured, the plane was “taken out of service” and “thoroughly inspected by our maintenance team at O’Hare before being put back into service. It’s now in our maintenance hangar at O’Hare for further inspection,” Martelle said.
The pair of emergency landings marked the second and third incidents involving an American Eagle commuter plane at O’Hare in two days. No one was injured Wednesday when another American Eagle plane was clipped by a 747 cargo plane on a taxiway.
