La Grange fair to feature 175 crafters

LA GRANGE — About 175 artists and crafters will be exhibiting at the 38th Annual La Grange Craft Fair July 14 and 15 in the downtown area.
Booths will line La Grange Road from Cossitt Avenue to Burlington Avenue and west along Harris Street to Ashland Avenue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 14 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15.
“We’ll have a wide variety of hand-crafted items for sale, including stationary, painting, ceramics, bean bag games, clothing for geese statues and American Girl doll clothes,” said Renae Schueneman, craft show organizer.
Other booths will feature floral designs, jewelry, fabric items, lawn decorations, stained glass, wine cork creations, decorative clothing and wrought iron décor. Other items include dried herbs, cement lawn decorations, night lights, hair accessories and photographs.
Among the artists will be two from Clarendon Hills.
Terry Kucera Choate began taking photographs and painting as a child about 60 years ago. She has worked in a variety of mediums, including photography, oil paintings and computer graphics. In 1994, she designed the opening scoreboard animation for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks at the then-new United Center.
Richard Sobkowiak has been involved in woodworking for 20 years and began selling his items about three years ago.
“I think I have a unique product,” he said. “I combine wood with acrylic and plastic, and I’ve had a great response.”
La Grange eateries and shops are increasing their involvement during the fair this year by offering gold cards with various incentives and discounts, which will be passed out at the craft booths.
The La Grange Business Association, which sponsors the fair and the gold card program, also is coordinating a raffle drawing for $25 gift baskets from retailers, as well as the grand prize, a trip for two to Chicago. Each purchase made at a La Grange business results in an entry ticket for the raffle.
