OAK BROOK — The 2012-2013 school year will be the last in Butler Elementary District 53 for Superintendent Sandra Martin and Brook Forest Principal Nina McCabe, both of whom will retire.
The District 53 board has hired BWP and Associates to coordinate the search for a new superintendent. The Libertyville-based company has conducted more than 600 successful executive searches for school districts, according to information from its website.
Searching for McCabe’s replacement will take place after a new superintendent is named, which should be by winter break, Martin said.
The timetable for the superintendent search included the July 1 posting of the position on BWP’s website and will include a Sept. 1 formal announcement of the vacancy and posting on a variety of education-related websites.
Several focus groups, representing teachers, PTO members, administrators, board and community members, are scheduled to meet the week of Sept. 3. An online survey will be posted at that time.
BWP is slated to present a profile of the superintendent being sought on Sept. 27 and present a slate of candidates Nov. 5. Candidate interviews are scheduled for later in November, and a site visit for the top candidate’s current place of employment will be completed Dec. 3.
Martin, who began work as superintendent in District 53 in July 2003, said Butler’s new superintendent should have several characteristics.
“It should be someone who is a good communicator and especially a good listener,” she said. “Also, highly organized and extremely knowledgeable about education and the needs of children.”
McCabe was hired as principal at Brook Forest Elementary in 2006. She was previously principal in Franklin Park District 84 and Woodland District 50 in Grayslake.
