Quigley commands in 5th Congressional

CHICAGO — Incumbent Mike Quigley retained a large lead over challengers Dan Schmidt and Nancy Wade Tuesday night for the 5th Congressional District.
With 577 of 586 precincts reporting, Quigley had 168,052 votes, Schmidt 73,553 and Wade 14,501, according to unofficial election results.
If Quigley indeed wins, he “is very honored to serve both Washington and the district for a third term,” he said Tuesday.
If re-elected, Quigley plans to focus on job growth, environmental issues and health care.
“I’m thrilled and excited,” he added.
Green candidate Wade has been an activist since the mid-70s and became a community activist in 1992 when she joined her neighborhood watchdog group, the Horner Park West Neighborhood Association.
According to her website, her advocacy is “guided by the principle that while we may not be able to change the whole world, we can work to change our piece of it, and as citizens in a democracy we must try.”
Republican candidate Schmidt has lived in the 5th Congressional his entire life.
According to his website, he believes Quigley is out of touch with the voters of the redrawn district.
