HINSDALE
Hinsdale Central High School recognized Veterans Day with an assembly Friday morning. Members of Hinsdale ‘s American Legion Post 250 participated in the ceremony, during which school officials and veterans talked about the meaning of the holiday and how military service helps develop heroes. George Hogrewe, a 1941 graduate of Hinsdale High School and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, read “In Flanders Field.” The poem was written by a Canadian physician about the fighting and killing on a Belgian battlefield in 1915.
Veterans and people in the auditorium who have or had family members who served in the military were asked to stand and be recognized.
The ceremony also included the singing of the National Anthem and the playing of “God Bless America” and the official songs of each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.~.
