OAK BROOK — The Oak Brook Village Board passed an ordinance Nov. 27 prohibiting U-turns along 16th Street, east of Illinois Route 83, after receiving a request from residents of the Oak Brook Club, a condominium community just north of 16th Street and east of Illinois 83.

Previously, U-turns were prohibited on 16th Street, east of Illinois 83 up to the first entrance into Oakbrook Center. The new ordinance extends the restriction to the entire length of 16th Street, which runs east from Illinois 83 to Spring Road.

Prohibiting U-turns on all of 16th Street does not present an undue hardship to motorists because several other options are available to drivers wishing to reverse direction, said Mike Hullihan, village engineer.
