Butler students fare well in math competitions

Hard work paid off for students on the The Butler Elementary District 53 Math Team.

Current students continued a tradition of strong performances at recent competitions at Fenwick and Montini high schools.

At Montini, the seventh-grade team secured first place, and the eighth-grade team finished second. Following the Montini contest, seventh- and eighth-graders won first place in the Fenwick contest, defeating rival Avery Coonley by 14 points.

Chris Lareau, who coaches the math team along with Patricia Harte, said students practice hard to prepare for competitions.

Winning math team members included Selina Zeng, Mary Huber, Carolyn Chun, Ananya Sawlani, Mira Amin, Craig McLaughlin, Muhammed Imran, Matt Attasi, Diva Harsoor, Kyle Yuan, Amelia Effrein, Ashvin Sial, Annika Sial, Alex Choi, Selina Zeng, and Warren Chen.~.
