Teachers show support in Hinsdale District 86 negotiations

HINSDALE — Negotiations continue between Hinsdale High School District 86 administrators and the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association on raises for this year and next, but the progress is questionable.
Between 30 and 40 teachers attended Monday’s board meeting, wearing blue pins that read, “Able and Willing, HHSTA.”
None of the teachers addressed the board members before or after a presentation on the Common Core standards. After the meeting, Robert Morgan from Hinsdale South’s guidance department said their attendance was a show of support for their negotiating team.
Superintendent Nicholas Wahl said a negotiations meeting is scheduled for next week.
“We are still bargaining in good faith. Both sides continue to bargain in good faith,” Wahl said.
The teachers’ union has not yet replied to a request for comment.
In November 2010, District 86 and its teachers signed a four-year contract, which set salary increases of 2.4 percent in the first year and 3.6 percent in the second. Salaries for the last two years of the contract were to be determined in the future. The district is more than seven months into the third year without an agreement.
