Pete’s Fresh Market to open in Oakbrook Terrace Square this summer

Pete’s Fresh Market, the main tenant at the Oakbrook Terrace Square Shopping Center, should open by the end of the summer, a development group connected with the center has told Oakbrook Terrace officials.
Curt Hurst of Frontier Development Group provided an update on the opening of the Oakbrook Terrace Square Shopping Center to the city council May 24.
The area has lacked a major grocery store since Dominick’s closed its location on the site more than a year ago.
Hurst would not reveal any of the center’s possible tenants before leases are signed, but said Pete’s Fresh Market is scheduled to open in late August or early September.
“He’s currently negotiating with possible tenants,” City Manager John Carpino said. “He’s actively waiting on letters of intent to get retail tenants in and what he referred to as a ‘casual fast food dining restaurant.’”
The 50,000 square foot Pete’s Fresh Market will anchor the shopping center on the southwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Summit Avenue.
Once tenants move in, the entire center is expected to bring in much welcomed sales tax revenue to Oakbrook Terrace
One other large project on the site concerns Harris Bank, which has committed to construct a new building and remain at the shopping center.
“Harris Bank will be rebuilt a few hundred feet to the east of its current location,” Carpino said. “They will remain open and move to the new bank once it’s finished.”
Once the old bank is demolished, a new stoplight entrance will take its place, offering drivers on Roosevelt easy access to the new shopping center. The new bank, however, is not expected to be completed until 2012.
“They’ve removed the ATMs to the east, where the new bank will be located,” Mayor Tony Ragucci said. “The new center is going to be great for our city and everybody in the area, especially with a large grocery store opening.”
