OAK BROOK — Plans are under way for Oktoberfest, based on the traditional Oak Brook Autumn Fest.

The Oak Brook Park District has partnered with the village and the Ronald McDonald Foundation for the festivities, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Central Park, 1450 Forest Gate Road.

The Oktoberfest adult sports tournaments will run from Sept. 21-23.

The park district introduced Oktoberfest to the greater Oak Brook community last year. The event, which attracted hundreds of soccer players and spectators, included German music, trendy Chicago Food Trucks, Two Brothers Beer, and the first Oktoberfest Adult Futbol Tournament.

We knew the event was going to be a hit, but the scope of last year’s success was unexpected,” said Mary Tansey, corporate relations for the Oak Brook Park District.

The hungry Oktoberfest crowd cleaned out the visiting food trucks within a couple of hours. This year, the park district enlisted the services of Sweet Baby Ray’s Catering Company and Tasty Catering to provide a customized fall menu that will include the German standard bratwurst and sauerkraut, jumbo pretzels with beer cheese sauce and caramel apples.

For the fans of Sweet Baby Rays, their signature pulled pork sandwich will also be available. The full menu is available at www.obparks.org.

Oktoberfest will once again feature Two Brothers Ebel’s Weiss and Domaine DuPage on tap. The Two Brothers Brewery is a local family owned and operated microbrewery and brewpub.

The village will provide all the traditional activities Oak Brook families experienced during Autumn Fest including face painting, a pumpkin walk, balloon animals, crafts, pony rides and a moon jump from 1-4 p.m. on Sept. 22. The Oak Brook Fire Department will also be onsite organizing fun activities for kids.

Musical entertainment provided by Chef Dan and the Appetizers from 3-5pm and The Blues Brothers-Jake and Elwood from 6-8 p.m.

Chef Dan and the Appetizers is comprised of McDonald’s employees and suppliers to the McDonald’s system. Lead singers are Executive Chef Dan and Eddie V. of the legendary “Eddie and Jobo” radio show. Jake and Elwood’s show features the “real deal” music and showmanship you love from the original Blues Brothers that is true to the original movie storyline and tunes.

For adults with a competitive spirit, there is still time to register your team for the Annual Oktoberfest Futbol Tournament. Teams participating in this unique adult soccer tournament are guaranteed to play three games, two on Saturday and one game Sunday. The tournament is an 11V11 format and all teams may have a maximum of 18 participants on the roster.

The winner of the championship final match will receive a championship plaque, individual mugs and a 50 percent discount entry for the 2013 tournament. The registration deadline for the tournament is Sept. 14. For more information on the Futbol Tournament, contact Chris Piasecki at (630) 645-9529 or visit www.obparks.org/oktoberfest to download printable forms.

The Ronald McDonald Foundation will host its annual Hittin’ For the House Classic on Friday and Saturday with a Home Run Derby at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
