Success stories from Hinsdale Township School District 86 include:
Danceline team wins state
The Hinsdale South Varsity Danceline Team was honored by the District 86 School Board on Monday for its two first-place finishes in the Illinois Drill Team Association competition.
The team, coaches Courtney Gillette and Heather Riggs, and parents were present for recognition of the team’s victories in 3A Kick and 3A Pom.
Thomson earns two more medals
Danny Thomson earn board recognition on Monday for finishing his Hinsdale Central swimming career with 10 medals from state competitions over four years.
This year, Thomson earned first place in the 500-yard freestyle for the third year in a row and first in the 200-yard freestyle for the second year in a row. Thomson will be competing in the Olympic trials in June and plans to attend Stanford University in the fall.
Thomson, his mom and Hinsdale Central swim coach Corky King were present to receive recognition from the board.
Mock trial team wins big
Hinsdale Central’s Mock Trial Team placed first in the Illinois State Bar Association State Championship.
The team consists of 10 members, representing the plaintiff and defense. The ISBA Standing Committee on Law Related Education for the Public provides a hypothetical case to argue. Hinsdale Central’s team will represent Illinois at the national championships in New Mexico in May.
Okoro wins triple jump championship
Hinsdale South senior Uzo Okoro placed first in the triple jump competition at the Illinois High School Association Indoor State Championships.
Okoro also placed fifth in the long jump competition and will compete in the outdoor state championship in May.
Red Apple Award
District 86 received the Bright Red Apple Award from SchoolSearch again this year.
The award is given to districts which are rated strong in five primary areas: academic performance, pupil/teacher ratio, expenditure per pupil, educational level of teachers and average teacher salary. District 86 is one of 79 Illinois school districts out of a total of 868 to receive the honor.
