Brook Forest students celebrated Arbor Day today, with a gift.

Each student in grades 3-5 was given a twig of a Norway spruce tree, donated by the Oak Brook Lions Club. Principal Nina McCabe told the children that while it looks like a twig, it will grow up to be a large tree.

“We had a twig that my daughter (now 23) brought home for Arbor Day and now it’s 8-feet tall and we decorate it for the holidays,” she said.

Norway Spruce trees blossom to 80 feet in height and a 40-foot spread. In addition to the tree, each Brook Forest student was given a certificate proclaiming him or her a Brook Forest Forester of Illinois.
