Students honored for leadership

The College of DuPage Office of High School Partnerships conducted a year-end banquet for its Student Leadership Academy.

The academy serves more than 170 students from 17 high schools, including Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South.

Thanks to the generosity of donors MK Education, Hinsdale Hematology Oncology Association and DeVry University, three students were awarded $500 scholarships based on their written essays. Scholarship winners included Christine Stella and Gina Skiris, both of Hinsdale South High School. Certificates of Completion were presented to students by Mary Klinefelter, director of academic partnerships, and Deana Salo, partner of Cray, Kaiser, LTD.

The College of DuPage Student Leadership Academy is offered to high school students with the goal of improving their leadership skills. Throughout the year, students attend training sessions on goal-setting, leadership skill assessment, time management, interviewing skills, resume-writing, ethics, work attitude and diversity in the workplace. The year-long program is supported by COD’s business community partners and neighboring colleges.
