Jennifer Traficanti, daughter of Mr. Andrew and Mrs. Jan Traficanti of Burr Ridge, graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree on May 13. The College is one of only 28 veterinary schools in the United States.

Dr. Traficanti and her fellow graduates in the Class of 2012 studied basic sciences and comparative medicine in the first two years of the veterinary degree program and mastered surgical and medical skills in the final two years of the program. At least two years of undergraduate course work is required before students can apply for admission to the program.

Dr. Traficanti will practice veterinary medicine as an associate veterinarian at CareFirst Animal Hospital in Raleigh/Morrisville, N.C. Dr. Traficanti graduated from Hinsdale Central High School in 2003. She is also a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a B.S. in animal sciences in 2007.

The following students were named by Illinois Wesleyan University to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2011-12 academic year:

Emily F. Gilmore, of Hinsdale, was among 40 University of Vermont students initiated into the Alpha Alpha Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, at an induction ceremony held in April. Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society, established in 1921, whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.

Sara J. Shippee, MD, MPH, of La Grange, graduated from UIC Medical School in Chicago on May 4.

Her previous degrees were earned from: UIC Masters in Public Health in 2008, B.A. in Religion and Philosophy, Colgate University class of 2004, and Lyons Township high school class of 2000. Dr. Shippee is the daughter of Carla and Gordy Schils, Avra Cohen and Larry Shippee, all of La Grange, and her brother, Michael Shippee, is from Chicago. Dr. Shippee will be attending the University of Washington, Seattle for a five year residency in Orthopedics beginning June 25.
