Blue ribbon status

Five teachers received the Ambassador of Excellence Award to recognize their efforts toward winning the Blue Ribbon Schools Designation for The Lane and Oak schools in Hinsdale. Sponsored by the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the award recognizes the best physical education and health programs in the state.

The designation, which is effective for five years, followed a review of the physical education programs at both schools, an April 10 visit to the schools, interviews with staff, students and parents, and consideration by a state-level panel. During the review process, the curriculum at the two schools was measured against state and national professional standards and those of Illinois States Board of Education. As of 2011, only 36 schools in Illinois had earned the Blue Ribbon Award. Each school will receive a large banner, a plaque and certificate and will be featured in the association’s journal.

The Ambassadors of Excellence were:

Ruth Jewell, The Lane

Dan Ozga, The Lane School

Marianne Biedrzycki, NBCT, Oak School

Gus Lauermann Oak School

Jeffrey Mack, Oak School
